Important Changes for lithium-ion batteries and three and four-wheel scooters/gophers

Dear Members,

Please be aware of significant changes regarding lithium-ion batteries and three and four-wheel scooters/gophers at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort.

Lithium-ion battery charging and storage

Due to updated insurance conditions, lithium-ion batteries can no longer be stored or charged on our premises, including in buggy storage areas and accommodation facilities, effective July 1, 2024.

This change applies to all lithium-ion-powered devices, including batteries for walk-behind buggies and scooters. These lithium-ion devices pose an increased risk associated with their portable batteries, which can be damaged or pose fire hazards if mishandled during charging.

While you can still use lithium-ion-powered devices on the course, Members’ batteries must be removed from their buggy before they are stored in any Club area. Batteries are not to be charged on-site and must be taken home for charging.

These adjustments are critical to comply with our insurance requirements.

The changes are in light of a recent surge in battery-related incidents. In New South Wales alone, there has been a 66% increase in battery-related fires over the past year, with a significantly higher injury rate compared to other types of fires.

The changes do not affect Members’ with Lithium-ion Golf Carts. Carts are excluded from the insurance changes as they are kept in a designated storage shed and are personally insured by their owner. Personal Cart insurance is a prerequisite for any carts in our on-site storage sheds.

Three and Four-wheeled Scooters and Gophers

The club has also decided that no new three and four-wheeled scooters and gophers will be allowed to be stored inside the Club storage areas.

Any Member considering purchasing a three or four-wheeled scooter or gopher must arrange storage outside the Golf Club.

While this style of on-course transportation is gaining popularity, we do not have enough space in our existing storage areas for any further additions.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding on these two matters.

Yours sincerely,

Peter Savy
CEO, Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort
